Cayuga ducks are a super cold hardy duck breed that originated in the US, near the Cayuga River in New York. They make a great dual purpose breed (eggs+meat). They cannot fly and they do not require swimming water, making them easier keepers. They are docile birds… not overly friendly but not at all aggressive. They are gorgeous ducks that lay a gorgeous BLACK egg. Their first eggs are typically black and then fade to grey, green and then white as they approach the end of their laying season. You can expect about 150 eggs from your Cayuga ducks each year and they also make great brooders so that you can hatch more babies each spring. They dress out around 10 pounds and have a delicious meat, if you are looking for a great meat bird.
